Painting –  QQI Level 4

There is a €30 charge per term for this course for materials. All materials are supplied.

Description

You will learn about different painting styles and techniques and will have the opportunity to create a range of practical art pieces in a variety of media. You will explore art history and the language of Art. You will complete an  minimum or 10 paintings/ artworks.

Who is this course for?

This course will suit you if you are starting out with a visual art class or if it’s a subject you already have an interest and knowledge in. It may help you to go on to further study in this area. It will also suit you if you are returning to education or seeking  a new hobby after a long time away from formal learning.

What do I need to do this course?

You do not need to have any qualifications to do the course. It is recommended that participants have an interest in art. For those with English as a second language, a good standard of both written and spoken English is required.

*We give priority to students from the Dublin 7 and 11 areas and to people getting a social welfare payment

What will I learn?

You will learn a range of art techniques and try new materials and tools including:

  1. Learn about materials inc. oils, acrylics and watercolours
  2. Paint brush techniques
  3. How to mix colours
  4. How to identify different artistic styles and movements in history
  5. How to talk confidently about art
  6. How to find good online source materials
  7. How to apply paint to both 2D and 3D artwork
  8. Still Life / Observational Drawing
  9. Landscape Acrylic Painting
  10. Printing Techniques
  11. Framing / Mounting your artwork

What are the Main Topics?

You will learn about the following topics:

  • Colour Theory
  • Experiment with range of art and design elements in both 2D and 3D
  • Solve design problems through visually documented planning and research
  • Look after art materials safely- maintenance and storage
  • Use the language of art history and appreciation with regard to artists work
  • Draw and paint a range of subjects from observation
  • Communicate a broad range of ideas visually
  • Discuss and evaluate your own and others work

Who is this course for?

Suitable if you are:

  • Beginner or Intermediate level.
  • No previous experience required.
  • An interest in painting is beneficial.
  • Looking to get started with a visual art class
  • Hoping to study further in this or a related area.
